August 1765 at the Parish of St. George Hanover
Square within the Liberty of Westmr. in the
County of Middlesex on an Inquisition taken
on View of the Body oflying
Dead in the said Parish Liberty and County

Hand and Colyflour near Chelsea Bridge in the Parish of St George Hanover Square on his Oath [..]
That the Deced came to the Hand & Colyflour and called
for a penny worth of Beer which he drank, about Nine
o'Clock on Thursday Night last, Says that the Deced
afterwards wen to crossedthe Road towards Chelsea Bridge
Says Sheet when he was crossing a Person was driving a
Hackney Coach towards Ranelagh House and that another
Man was at the same time driving another Hackney Coast
from Ranalagh towards Pimlice , Says that the Deced
was just before the Horses drawing the Coach going from
Ranelagh, and that the Poll of that Coach (which was
Drawn by two Horses) struck the Deced upon his
Breast and the Deced was there by forced down with
his Head against a Wooden Rail there Depont. says
that he went directly to the Deced and found him
Speech less and motionless, an says that the Deced
died in about three Minutes, Dept, says that the Deced
seemed to be very well when he went from the Hand
and Colly flower, and verily believes that his Death
was occasioned by the Stroke which the Deced reced
from the Pole of the Hackney Coach, But Dept. says
he cannot be certain whether the Man that drove
the Hackney Coach could see the Deced crossing the
Road as the other Coach was at that time coming
towards him, and very near him, and says that the Road
was then very dusty. Says that he does not Know who
the Coach and Horses belonged to.
