Informations taken this Thirty first day of July
1765 at the Parish of St. George Hanover Square within
the Liberty of Wetmr. in the County of Middlesex on an
Inquisition taken on View of the Body of Robert Mills< no role >
lying Dead in the said Parish Liberty and County.

Thomas Gardner< no role > a Soldier belonging to the Cold Stream
Regiment of Foot Guards on his Oath Saith, That on Monday
last about Seven o'Clock in the Afternoon Dept. was a little
below Chelsea Bridge having been to wash himself in the
River there near the Floodgates, Says that he met the Deced
and another Man coming along in the WatersideSans
that he (immaginingSeeing that they were going to wash themself [..] )
desired they would not go too far, that the Water was very
dap, and that they might be deceived, to which the Deced
answered that he wished it was ten times deeper, Says
that the Deced and the other Man slipped into a Hole in
the River near the Floodgates , Says that the Deced came
up and that the other Man catched hold of the Deced but
could not being him out, Says that the Deced came up a
second time and that the other Man catched at the Deced
but missed him, Says that the Deced then Sunk, and
believes that the other Man in the Water with Deced did
all in his power to save the Deced's Life, but that he did
not see the Deced afterwards alive. And this Dept. says
that he went down yesterday Morning to the place
where he saw Deced sink, and with a Hook found the
Deced in the Water and dragged him to the Shore near
the Floodgates in the Parish of St. George Hanover Square
and says that the Deced was then Dead.
