On an Indictment for a Misdemeanor
in Keeping a Disorderly House in Charles Street
Covent Garden

Abraham Clegg< no role > of the Sum and apple Tree in white Hart Yard
Drury Lane Victualler Maketh Oath That the abovenamed Defendant
William Crimes otherwise in Grimes was Indicted as this Defendant believes
in October Session 1770 for keeping a Disorderly House in Charles Street
Covent Garden and Saith that in April Session following the said Defendant
appeared and Pleaded Not Guilty to the said Indictment And this Deponent
was one of his Sureties in the Recognizance to Try his Traverse at the June
Session following but the said Defendant hath not since Appeared or Tried
his Traverse thereon and this Deponent further Saith that the said Defendant
Goods were all Sold about Christmas 1770 and the said Defendant then
Quitted the said House for which he stands Indicted and hath never
lived in the same Since And this Deponent further Saith that Notwithstanding
he hath made all the enquiry he possibly Could for this Year and a half
last past for the said Defendant in Order to have taken and Surrendered him yet hath not been able
to find out where he is, or what is became of him
