At the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace of our Lord the King held at
Westmr. in & for the Liberty of the Dean & Chapter of the Collegiate Church
of St Peter Westmr. of the City Borough & Town of Westmr. in the County of
Middlesex and St. Martins Le Grand London by Adjornment on Friday
the Seventh day of June in the Seventh Year of the reign of our Sovereign
Lord George the Second King of Great Britain France & Ireland Defender
of the faith before Sir John Gonson< no role > Knight John Mercer< no role > Gideon
Harvey Owen Davies Esquires and others their Fellowes Justices
of our said Lord the King assigned to keep the Peace in the said Liberty
& also to hear & determine divers Felonies Trespasses & other Misdeeds
done & Committed within the Liberty aforesaid

Whereas Borrow Linskill< no role > This name instance is in set 4671. one of the Petty Constables within this Liberty & others did
this day Exhibitt their humble Representation & Petition to this Court Setting forth that
by an Act of Parliament Entitled an Act against Mutiny & Desertion & for the better
regulating the quartering of Soldiers it is (amongst other things) Enacted That the
Petty Constables in their proper Wards & districts Shall quarter & billett Soldiers in
their Said respective Wards according to the knowledge they have of the most proper
Publick houses to receive them & farther Setting forth that the High Constable of this
City & Liberty contrary to the usuall method of quartering Soldiers hath quartered
& billetted Soldiers all over the Said City & Liberty and thereby excluded the Petitioners
from the right vested in them by the authority of Parliament & that thereby the King
Subjects are greatly prejudiced by that the said High Constable is not so capable of
judging on whom to quarter Soldiers all over the Said City & Liberty as the Several
Petty Constables within their respective Wards & that the Said High Constable would
not undertake so much trouble unless Some benefitt accrued to him thereby & also
Setting forth that the Petitioners have received many complaints from the
Inhabitants in their respective Wards of great hardshipps putt on them by the Said
irregular method of quartering Soldiers which they cannot remedy unless the power
vested by Law in the Said Petitioners but taken from them by the Said High Constable
be restored to them by the Authority of this Court and humbly praying this Court to
take the Same into consideration & to grant them Such releif as Shall be right & just
Now this Court this day taking into consideration the matter of the Said Petition doth
hereby Order that the Said Petition & all things therein contained be & they are
hereby referred to Thomas Deveil< no role > Alexander Choke< no role > Valentine Hilder< no role > Robert
Midford
< no role > William Miller< no role > Richard Manley< no role > and Thomas Ward< no role > Esquires & to Such
others his Majesties Justices of the Peace of this City & Liberty as Shall please to attend
the Same or to any three of them to enquire into the facts contained in the Said
Petition and to releive the Said Petitioners in Such manner as by Law & Justice they
ought to be releived and this Court doth farther Order that the said Justices be desired
to meet at the Horn Tavern in New Pallace Yard within this Liberty on
