Committed by Francis Geary< no role > Keeper of ye Gatehouse
and Marmaduke Bignold< no role > , his Turnkey.

Complaints in Petition

Article ye First

They have taken two pence out
of a Shilling, Sacrament Money.
And proportionably, out of all
other Ecclesiaticall Charities.
And Insected ye. Turnkey
and his Wife, and Several
other, not Intitled to Charities.

Article ye Second

That ye. Sd. Geary Etc. Secreted
a Gift of ye Lady Robinsons,
of ten Shillings, and applyed
it to their own use.

Extorted Six pence a Man, out
of a Late Gift of 12 Stone of
Beef, and Sixty Loaves.

Admits & Denials

Admits; that ye Turnkey receives two pence out of a Shilling
that's Sent on Sacrament Days from ye: Bishop, and from ye:
Hands of those Debtors that are so pleas'd to bestow it on him,
(Severall not giving one farthing) for his fidelity & Case
not to Neglect carrying in their Names to ye: Abby; which
Charity hath been often lost, for want of a proper Person to look
after it; which sheres it to be, no Demand of ye Turnkey, but a
Voluntary Gift of ye. Prisoners, and a Customary Receasd, to any
that gives theirselves ye: trouble to seek for ye: Vacqer , or any
other, that's Intrusted to pay ye: sd: Charity: which after In-
telligence given of ye. Names of ye: Debtors, the Party comes
to ye: Goal, and order Each Man to be call'd, one by one, and
Delivers into his hand one Shilling. So that it is Impossible,
for ye Turnkey and his Wife, or any other Person, to be In-
Serted in ye. aforesd. List. And for all other Proportions,
out of Ecclesiaticall CharitiesDeny'd.

No ExtortionBut admits, that Six pence each Man, was
paid to ye Turnkey, for his trouble and charge, of bringing
twelve Stone of Beef, and five Dozen of Bread, from Iron-
Monger Hall< no role > , in Thread needle Street, and Agree'd on, by Consent
of ye. Debtors theirselves. Viz.

taken into ye: House of ye: Keeper, by the Consent of Mr. Squire
and Mr. Innis, who gave Orders to ye: Maid to Brace their Lots
for them, they being at Bed and Beard in ye.. sd.. House.
