UPON Complaint made to this Court, that Divers of
the Petty Constables of this City and Liberty, have
neglected, and do neglect, to put up and six upon the Out-
side and Front of their Houses next the Street, a painted
Staff or Lath, denoting him to be a Constable, with his
Christian and Surname in large Letters, in Contempt and
Breach of a former Order of this Court made for that Pur-
pose. It is thought fit and order'd by this Court, that all
and every the Constables and Headboroughs of this City
and Liberty, now and for the Time being, do forthwith,
and so from Time to time, as they shall be appointed and
sworn into the said Office, put up and six upon the Outside
and Front of their Houses next the Street, to be plainly
seen, a painted Staff or Lath, two Foot long at least, deno-
ting him to be a Constable, and also their Christain and Sur-
names, painted in large Letters upon a Board also two Foot
long, fixed over their Doors; to the End the Inhabitants of
this City and Liberty, and all other Persons concerned, may
the more readily know where to apply for a Constable, when
Occasion [..] .And it is further Ordered, that the Clerk
of the Peace of this Liberty, or his Deputy, do forthwith
cause this Order to be printed, and that a sufficient Number
of Copies thereof, be delivered to the High and Petty Con-
stables of this City and Liberty, to the End, that due Notice
may be taken thereof, and that no Person concerned in the
Execution of this Order, may pretend Ignorance.
