In Pursuance of an Order of Reference at the last General Quarter
Sessions of the peace held for the City & Liberty of Westmr made upon the
reading the Humble Representation of the Churchwardens & Overseers of
the Poore of the parish of St. Margaret Westmr. in the said Liberty Complaining
of an Unequal Rate or Proportion on that parish towards the Payment of
Fifty Pounds Salary to the Governor of the House of Correction at Tuttlefields
and praying Such Method might be taken to reduce the Same to an equall
Ballance with other the Parishes in the said Liberty, We whose Names are
hereunto Set Justices of the Peace of the said City & Liberty to whom it was
referred by the said Order is Expressed, Do Certify & Report to his
Maties. Justices of Peace which shall be Assembled at the next General Quarter
Sessions of the Peace to be held for the said City & Liberty That We have Severall
times met together and considered the matter by the said Order to us referred
And do find that the Present Rate for payment of the said Fifty pounds P Ann
is not an equal Rate, have convened before us Several Persons with their
Rooks and Rates proper to inform us of the respective Publick Taxes Such
as the Land Tax Window Tax Rates for the Poor Repairing Bridges Roberus
Passing Vagrant Etc which we also considered & Examined And do find that
in the present and in like Cases for the future Rate according to the Proportion
of the Tax on Windows reduced to a pound Rate is most equal & Just to be
made on the Several Parishes in this City & Liberty, A Scheme whereof is
hereto Annexed All Which We Submitt to this Court Etc.
