In a Matter of Bastardy

The Parish of Saint Matthew Bethnal Green in the
County of Middlesex

William Cordell< no role > of Hare Street in the Parish of Saint Matthew Bethnal
Green in the County of Middlesex Weaver one of the Overseers of the Poor of
the said Parish maketh Oath and saith that Mary Towell< no role > Signlewoman
who in and by her Voluntary Examination taking in Writing upon
Oath on the eighth day of August last before Joseph Merceron< no role > Esquire
One of his Majesty Justices of the Peace in and for the said County
declared herself to be pregnant with child or children, that the same
was or were likely to be born a bastard on Bastards and to become
chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Matthew Bethnall Green and thereby
charged the above named John Rogers< no role > with being the true and only
Father Thereof, is now and hath been for some time past maintained
in Bethnal Green workhouse at the Oath and Charges of the said Parish
and hath not been delivered of any Child since her Examination aforesaid
And that this Deponent verily believes she is at this time pregnant
with Child or Children as above mentioned
