On the Prosecution of Samuel Clarke< no role >
for an Assault

Vernon Ley< no role > of No. 2 threw Mariner Court Fore Street Cripplegate London
Gentleman Maketh Oath that on Monday the sixth Day of April Instant
Deponent drew the Annexed Notice and Copy and on Tuesday the Seventh
went to the House of Mr. Robert Merydith< no role > the Red Lion, five Field Chelsea
at the Dependant John Picket< no role > 's request, to make enquiry when the Prosecutor
Samuel Clarke< no role > Lodged, and was Informed by Mr. Marydith he had not seen
the Prosecutor for a considerable time and he believed the Prosecutor to be a Shuffler
but his Lodgings was at No. 4 Reneleagh Street, Deponent went there and
enquired if Samuel Clerk< no role > Lodged their, the Land lady said he had Lodged
there, but went away a fortnight before Christmas last, Deponent then shewed
the Annexed Notice, and was informed by the Land lady she did not Know where
the prosecutor was to be found and went away in her Deft, this Deponent further
saith that he saw a Letter from the Prosecutor directed to George Forrister< no role > a
Peace Officer in Shadwell , who had the Bench Warrant to serve on the Defendt.
requesting when the Defendant was in Custody to be informed thereof by Letter
directed to the prosecutor at the George Inn , Hay market St James's Westminster
Deponent on the same Day went there and enquired for the prosecutor, the
Land lord and Landlady both said he had kept there some Nights, but they and
not Know where he was gone, or what business he was, and that he went away in their
Debt about a fortnight ago
