Parish or Place Where the Offence shall be committed to be levied by Distress
and Sale of the said Ship or any Goods within the same, by Warrant under the
Hand and Seal of any Justice of the Peace for the same County City or Tonner
Corporate, returning the Overplus (if any be) upon Demand, after the said
Penalty and Charges of levying the same are satisfied

Provided always and it is hereby declared, That no Master of
any such pacquet Boat, Ship or Vessel,shall be compelled to take on Board
more than One Vagrant for every Twenty Tons Burthen of any such Boat
ship or Vessel

Read the Report of the Committee of the Magistrates of the Counties
of Chester and Lancaster appointed to take into consideration the prevent
mode of maintaining conveying and shipping Vagrants in the said
Counties, and for reducing the Expences attending the same made on the
19th day of May 1785.

Read the Orders of Court made in he year 1757.

Mr. Adams attending produced a List of the Vagrants by him
removed from the 15th. day of April 1785 to the 20th. day of May following whereby
it appeare that the whole number by him removed in that time amounts to
286 out of which Number 183 are from the city of London and 9 from the
County of Surrey and being asked what the great incerease was owing to say'd
"the Ease with which Passes were obtained in the City of London was the Chief".

Resolved that Mr. Adams do prepare and lay before this Committee
at their next Meeting an Account of the numbe of vagrants passed by him in
through and out of this County from October Session 1782 to October Session 1785
distinguishing the number removed from the City of London

Resolved that a Conference be had with the Lord Mayor and
Aldermen of the City of London and that the Clerk of this Committee do send a
Letter to them to inform them of the Appointment of this Committee and desiring
them to appoint a time and place for such Conferene and that when the
Answer shall be received from them he do summon the Committee to meet two
hours before the time by theme appointed

Adjourned till he Clerk shall call the Committee
again together.
