Read the following Order of Court made the 27th February 1783 Vizt.
Ordered that whoever shall be Elected to the Office of Governour or Keeper
of Clerkenwell Bridewell shall be subject to such Orders Regulations and
Alterations as this Court from time to time shall think proper to make
respecting the Sirs and Perquisites which shall or may be lawful for the
Governour Keeper hereafter to demand or take as well as to all other matters
and things whatever respecting the said Bridewell the Governor or Keeper
thereof and the Prisoners therein so that the Profits of the Office shall not be
reduced to less than £330 P Annum and the same was Unanimously
agreed to.

Resolved it appears to this Committee that His Majestys Justices
of the Peace have exercised the power of lowering the fees taken by their Gaolers

Resolved it appears to this Committee that the Keeper of New
Prison and the Governour of the House of Correction do claim a Right to
and take 6th. as fess of such persons as are Committed to their Custody
by Warrant upon suspicion of Felony for further examination even if
such person on further examination is discharged by the Committing
Justied

Resolved it is the Opinion of this Committed that such persons
as are committed on suspicion of Felony or other Crimes for further
examination and who on further examination are discharged by the
committing Justices are clearly within the spirit of the Act of the 14th of
his present Majesty for the relief of Prisoners charged with Felony.

Resolved it is the Opinion of this Committee that the exacting
fees of Persons committed on suspicion of Felony or other Crimes for further
examination and who upon further examination are discharged by
the committing Justices is both oppressive and unjust
