Indicted on the Prosecution of Robert
Shortis
< no role > for the Crime of Perjury.

Richard Harrison< no role > one of the Turnkeys belonging to the Prison of the
Poultey Compter London the Defendant in this Cause maketh Oath that Jane
Slate last of Hughes's Court in Water Lane Blackfryars London is as this
Deponent hath been advised and verily beleives a material Witness for the
Deponent on the Trial of the Indictment against this Deponent on the
Prosecution of the said Robert Shortis< no role > for the Crime of Perjury and that without
the Benefit of the Testimony of the said Jane Slate< no role > on the said Trial this Deponent
cannot as he is advised and beleives safely take his Trial on the said Indictment
at this present Session And this Deponent saith that Yesterday he made
Enquiry for the said Jane Slate in order to have her served with a subpeena
to appear as a Witness for this Deponent on his said Trial and received
Information that she was dangerously ill in Saint Bartholomews Hospital
And this Dept. saith that he did this Morning go to Saint Bartholomew's
Hospital and there saw the said Jane Slate in Faith's Ward who informed
this Deponent that She had been for about the Space of Ten Week past afflicted
with Sickness and was unable on Account of such Sickness to attend as
a Witness for this Deponent at this Session and which Information this
Deponent beleives to be true And lastly this Deponent saith that the said
Jane Slate appeared to this Deponent to be dangerously ill and unable to
be removed from the said Hospital without the utmost Danger of
losing her Life.

John Street the fifteenth Day of
