Middlesex


At the General Quarter Session of the Peace of our Lord the King holden
for the County of Middlesex at Hicks-Hall in Saint John Street in the said County
(by Adjournment) on Thursday the Twenty second day ofMayApril in the
Thirteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third King of
Great Britain Etc Before Sir John Hawkins< no role > Knight, Benjamin Cowley< no role > , John
Spencer Colepeper
< no role > , John Walford< no role > Esquires and others their Follows Justices of our
said Lord the King Assigned to keep the Peace in the County aforesaid and
also to hear and determine divers Felonies Trespasses and other Misdemeanors
committed in the same County.

Whereas the Commissioners for Paving Repairing Cleansing Draining, Lighting
and Watching that part of the Parish, of Saint Sepulchre which histhat is and hathin the County

of Middlesex and for removing Annoyances and Obstructions therefrom and
preventing the like for the future& fHave at this present Session Exhibited their
Petitionand Appealsetting forth That the Petitioners in pursuance of [..] of
Parliament lately made and passedarewere causing the Foot and Carriage
within the same to be new paved and otherwise improved at a very considerable
Expence of the Inhabitants thereof for the Benefit and Accommodation of the
Publick in General That the present Watch house situate in the Centre of Saint
John Street near Smithfield Bars is to was is not only a very great Nusuanceof itself
And a Harbour forall manner ofFilth and Rubbish but also unfit for the
Purpose being too small to hold above five persons and without any Peace
whatever for securing disorderly Personsinthat may be apprehended or given
in Charge to the Constable or Headborough of the Night who are Oblidged to
send them to Prison until they can be carried before a Magistratethe next day
That for those reasons and a sit will tend to the greater Improvement of that pa [..]
of the Parish if the said Watch House waspulled down and entirelyremoved a [..]
more convenient one erectedand builtin some other part of the Parish as well
better Accommodation of the Officers of the Night as for the securing (without
