St. Gibes's in the Feilds the First day of August 1768 at the
Running Horse near the old pound touching the
Death of Richard Berry< no role > then & there lying Dead

Francis Preston< no role > Carver in New Street St. Brides
on Friday Morning bust he saw two Persons Stript and
[..] fighting behind Mountague House sagth he
Knew neither of then belevies they fought about a
Quarter of an Hour that the deceast at the first
Settening of [..] emed to have the advantage tho' at last
the deceast gave out and sett upon the Grass That the
Person now in Custody was going out of the King and the
Person who appear'd to be second called him back &
Said he Should have the other pounds with Him that
then the two sett too again & the deceast throu'd the
Prisoner upon His Back They were lifted up again &
they sett too a second Time That the Prisoner then Ritt the
Deceast over the left Eye. upon which the deceast
dropt & gave out which is all he known's

Read St. Pancrass That last Friday between ten & Eleven
O' Clock in the Morning he saw two Battles behind
Mountague House That the first Battle was the
Occasion of the second which was between the Prisoner
in Coustody and the deceast That there was a Ring &
the deceast in order to keep the Ring clear [..] went round
with a Stick & accidentally hitt the Prisoner upon
which words arose & the deceast said the Prisoner
he would fight Him The Prisoner Accepted the
Challenged and they Stript and sett too That they
fought [..] he thinks about a Quarter of an
& our and the deceast gave out & said he wound fight
no more That some Person who appear'd to be a
principal said to the deceast you shall fight him
again Then they sett too a second Time for about
two minutes & the Prisoner then gave the deceast An
unlucky Blow upon the left Temple & he fell &
believes he never Spoke afterwards but soon died
