Whereas Complaint upon Oath hath been made unto us two of
his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of Middx resideing
in & near the Parish of Kensington in the said County of Middx by
John Marsh< no role > This name instance is in a workspace. & John Redfearne< no role > Surveyors of the Hignways of the said
Parish of Kensington That by Virtue of an Order of the General
Quarter Sessions of the Peace holden at Hicks Hall in St. John Street
in and for the said County of Middx on Friday the Thirteenth Day of July
last past It was Ordered that the Churchwardens and such other
Inhabitants of the sd. Parish of Kensington as were usually present
at the making of Parish Rates should forthwith make a Rate or
Assessment upon all & every the Inhabitants Owners & Occupyers of Houses
Lands Tenements & Hereditaments for repair of the said Highways Causeways
& Bridges over the same And it was by the sd. Order directed Ordered
& appointed that the Surveyors of the Highwayes in the sd. Parish for
the present Yeartoshould Levy & Collect the said Assessment (after the same
should be allowed of by two or more Justices of the Peace for the said
County of Middx inhabiting in or near the sd. Parish) by Distress and
Sale of the Goods of every Person so to be assessed not paying the same
withinfourteenten Days after Demand. That pursuant to the above
mentioned Order of Court The Churchwardens and severall other
Inhabitants of the sd. Parish of Kensington (as were usually
present at the making of Parish Rates) made a Rate or Assessment
upon all & every the Inhabitants Owners & Occupyers of Houses
Lands Tenements & Hereditaments in the sd. Parish (according to a
Pound Rate of Six Pence in the Pound of the Yearly value of the
said Houses Lands Tenements & Hereditamentsand afterwards [..] which was
allowed of by two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the sd. County of Middx
And whereas Oath hath been made before Us That the severall &
respective Persons hereunder named have been duely Sumoned personally
to be & appear before Us this Day to shew Cause why they should not
Pay the severall Sumes of Money so assessed & Rated upon them [..]
& why their goods should not be Disheined for their Neglect &
refusall of paying the sd Rate or Assessment [..] they not
payinghaving paid the some within fourteen dayes offer demand made, as
appears to us upon Oath
