At the General Quarter Session of the Peace of our Lord the King holden
for the County of Middlesex at Hicks Hall in Saint John Street in the said
County (by Adjournment) On saturday the Eighteenth day of January in
the Sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third King

their Fellows Justices of our said Lord the King Assigned to keep the
Peace in the County aforesaid and also to hear and determine divers
Felonies Trespasses and other Misdemeanours committed in the same
County

Whereas William Dimon< no role > Apprentice to Thomas Beare< no role > Chaser Hath at this
Present Session Exhibited his Petition and Appeal Setting forth That the Petitioner by
Indenture dated the 16th. day of April 1764 was bound Apprentice to the said Thomas
Beare then of southampton Buildings Holborn Chaser for the Term of Seven Years That
the said Thomas Beare in Consideration of the Sum of Twenty pounds to him then Paid
by the Petitioners Mother he Convenanted to teach the Petitioner the Art of a Chaser and
Engraver That the Petitioner being so bound hath duly and faithfully performed his Part
of the Convenants in the said Indenture specifyed That at the time the Petitioner became
bound as aforesaid and for about Six Months afterwards the said Thomas Beare kept as
House in Southampton Buildings and had a Journeyman and himself both working at
the Business of Chasing whereby the Petitioner was then Instructed in that Art but
soon afterwards the said Thomas took a Profligate Course of life and thereby cost very
hear the whole of his business and got greatly into Debt and for some Months past had
been Obliged to abscond and screen himself in the Verge of the Court That there had not
been above one or two Cases chased in a Month for many Months past at his said
Masters Altho they might do several every week so that the Petitioner had not any
thing to do in the said Arts nor any one to Instruct him His Maser keeping very
disorderly Hours and wholly neglecting his business That ever since the Petitioner had
been bound his Master nor any one for him had Instructed the Petitioner or had he had
any thing at all to do in the Engraving way and is totally Ignorant thereof That his
said Master and his wife Insist on the Petitioners Employing his time in making of
their Fires and doing other Household work and also Cooking after their Young Child of
about eight Months Old That by reason of his Masters abandoned course of life by
breaking of the Sabbath frequently getting drunk and keeping bad hours and drunken
and disorderly Company his said Master had Cost his business and the Petitioner was
prevented from learning the said Arts of Chasing and Engraving for which purpose
he was so bound as aforesaid and the said Sum of Twenty pounds paid That the
Petitioners Master (when he could safely gett there) resorted to a house in the Savoy
near the Water side which had a Balcony projecting over the Water where many
Lighters loaden with Coals lye That his said master had several times obliged the
Petitioner to go on Board such lighters in the Night time and fill Pails with Coals which
