At the General Quarter Session of the Peace of our Lord
the King holden for the County of Middlesex at Hicks Hall
in Saint John Street in the said County (by Adjournment) on
saturday the Eighteenth day of January in the Sixth year
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third King of
Great Britain etc Before John Hawkins< no role > Saunders Welch< no role > , John
spencer Colepeper
< no role > Thomas Balack< no role > Esquires and others their Fellows
Justices of our said Lord the King Assigned to keep the Peace
in the County aforesaid and also to hear and determine
divers Felonies Trespasses and other Misdemeanours
committed in the same County

Whereas the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of
Saint James within the liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex
Have at this Present Session Exhibited their Petition and Appeal Settingforth
That by a Pass Warrant or Order under the Hands and Seals of William
Timbrell
< no role > and John Upton< no role > Esquires two of His Majesty's Justices of the
Peace for the City and Liberty of Westminster (one whereof being of the
Quorum) bearing date the Eighteenth day of December One thousand
Seven hundred and Sixty five Frances Bencroft< no role > Singlewoman was Removed
from the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square within the Liberty of
Westminster , to the said Parish of Saint James within the said liberty as the
place of her last legal Settlement Whereby the Petitioners thought themselves
Aggrieved Now upon hearing of the said Appeal in the presence and hearing
of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint
George Hanover Square and they consenting by their Council to the Allowing
of the said Appeal It is Ordered that the said Appeal be and the same is
hereby Allowed And the said Pass Warrant or Order of the said two Justices
is hereby Quashed and Vacated and it is also Ordered that the Churchwardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint James or some or one
of them do forthwith Convey and Deliver back the said Poorwoman (together
with a Copy of this Order) unto the Churchwardens and Overseers of the said
Parish of Saint George Hanover Square or to some or one of them who are
hereby required to receive and provide for her until they can Free themselves
from the charge thereof by due Course of law.
