The Examination & Conffession of James
Cannon
< no role > Junr: of the Parish of Little Stanmore
in the County of Middlesex Labourer Taken before
me one of his his majesty's Justices of the
Peace for the said County the 8th day of
Aprill 1755

This Examinant saith that
on or about the Sixteenth day of Febuary last
he was in a hay left over the stable belonging to Isaac
Redwood
< no role > of the Parish of little Stanmore in the County
of Middlesex , Victualler, with one Thomas Cartwright< no role >
whoe told this Examinant that Old Bavin had some
money in his Chest & the said Cartwright take the Chest
and turn'd it upside down & this Examt heard the Money
rattle therein, but the said Cartwright could not undoe
the Hinges, then turn'd the Lock towards him & Said he
would have it open, and took a hay forke & endeaver'd
to open the lock therwith but did not, & this Examt
further said that on Sunday morning the second day
of March as near as this Examt can remember
about Eight or Nine of the Clock this Examt & the said
Cartwright were together in the Hay Loft aforesaid
the said Cartwright took A Hay Fork & Wrencht the Lock
of the said Chest and draw'd out two of the nailes which
fasten'd on the Lock and said we must have the Box
open and then this Examt imediatly Afterwards went and
opened the said Chest, and took out two Shillings, one of
which he gave to his mother, and the other he spent, and after
this Examt had taken out the two Shillings he Called the
said Cartwright and told him he had opened the Chest
who [..] came & counted the money there in but this Examt
did not see him take any of the money away, & this Examt
further saith that Cartwright bidd him goe & get some Nailes
& he would naile it up againe that there might be
no Noyes about it, which this Examt did & Cartwright
nailed it up acordingly
