On the Presecution of George Campbell< no role >
on an Indictment for Forgery.

George Campbell< no role > the Presecutor in this Cause and James Ready< no role > a
prissonier in Chelsea College severally make Oath as follows and first the Dept.
George Campbell< no role > for himself saith that James Rathery< no role > Deced and this Depts.
being Mariners and mess mates on Board his Majesties ship the vigilant and the
said James Rathery being taken ile on Board the said Ship in the East Indies did on
or about the 17th Day of Novr 1748 duly make and publish his last will & Testamt.
in writing in the presence of this Depts. & in the presence of David Macky< no role > mate of
the said ship and Anthony Edwards< no role > - who was clerk to the Capt of the said
ship Credible witnesses and thereby gave and Devised to this Dept. all his Estate
[..] and Effects & appointed this Depts. Extor of his sd. wile and soon after dyed.
on Board the said ship and the Depts. George Campbell< no role > for himself further saith
that upon his this Depts. Arrival in London in the month of April 1752 & applyed
to a prector in Dr. Comons to have the will of the Sd. James Rathery proved and to
obtain a probat thereof when this Depts. to his great surprize was informed by his
said Proctor that anor. will of the Sd. James Ratheryes had been proved by one who
assumed the name of George Rathery< no role > and pretended to be Cousin to the Deced
whereupon this Depts. applyed to one of Mrs. Gearings Clerks (which said Mr. Gearing
was Agent to the Regints. to which the sd. James Rathery and this Dept. belonged
to know if the said James Ratherys pay are mariner had been reced by any
person and whom, when this Depts. to his great surprize was informed that the
same was paid to the Defrs. Oliver Mc. Allester then of Brompton in the county
of middx by virtue of a Lye of Alterl from the Sd. Geo. Rathery the pretended Extn
and the Deps. Geo: Campbell for himself further saith that the this Depts. suspecting
that the said James Ratherys will so proved in the Comons was forged & not genuine
and that our George Sweatman< no role > who was a Serjts . belonging to the same Reginment
that the said James Rathery and this Depts. belonged to and also clerk to seer.
of the officers of the sd. Regimts. & the said Mc. Allester or one of them were
concerned in the making and Forgeing there of this Depts. did apply to Thomas
Lidiard
< no role > Esqr . One of his majesty's Justices of the peace for the County of Middex who upon
this Depts. Informn. upon Oath granted a warrts. for the Apprehending & bringing before
him the Body of the said George Sweatman< no role > and the sd. George Sweatman< no role > being
accordingly apprehended on a about the Second day of Seprs. last past he the said
George Sweatman< no role > immediately confessed the Forgeing of the sd. will & also
