Upon an Indictment
for an Assault upon
Mary Childs< no role >

Middlesex


Peter Hughes< no role > of King Street in the Parish of Saint Giles in the
Fields in the County of Middlesex Victualler One of the Defendants above named Maketh Oath that
Mary Childs the Prosecutrix abovenamed hath been some
Months removed from her late place of Abode in Broad Saint
Giles's in the Parish aforesaid And further that he this Deponent
hath made frequent and diligent Inquiry after the said Mary
Childs's new place of Abode or Habitation and hath used his
Endeavours to find out where she was to be met with but has
not been able to find out her now place of Abode nor has this
Deponent seen or heard any Thing of the said Mary Childs or
where she was to be found or met with untill Monday last the
ninth Instant about four o' Clock in the Afternoon when the
said Mary Childs called at the house of Mr. Brown this Defendts.
Sollicitor in order to make up the Matters in difference between
her and the said Defendants and where this Deponent then was and
did see the said Mary Childs and caused her to be served with a
Notice for trying the Traverse of this Deponent and the other Defendts.
above named to the said Indictment as on Wednesday then next which
Notice she refused to accept And this Deponent further saith that
the said Mary Childs did then utterly refuse to let this Deponent knew
where she the said Mary Childs lived or was to be met with And this
Deponent saith that he is still a Stranger to the Place of Abode or
Habitation of the said Mary Childs or of William Childs< no role > her
pretended Husband.
