I have been Clerke of the peace of this County for about Ten Years Last hast during
which line & for a great many Years before & as Heleive beyond the memory of any
Than Living it has been always Customary for the Clerk of the Peace to charge for
Making up the Fresholders Book & buplicate for the Sheriffe all Publick Orders
of Sessions & all other publick businesse done for the County om Genaral (for which,
he can't charge any perticular party) to the County & have the same Allowed by
the Justices at the Sessions & an Order upon one of the Treasurers of the County to pay
the same out of the County Stock but Some of the, Justices of this County have of
late objected to my being paid any thing for any businesse Except what I can
charge Perlienlar par yes with & Seem into insist that they can't justify paying
me for such Publick businesses out of the County Stock & that I am Obliged
Etc Officio to do the County businesse at my own Expence without Fee or reward
therefore take the Liberty of giving you, this trouble to beg the favour of you to
Send me an Acco. in what manner & by whom you are Said for all Publick
businesse done by you as Clerke of the Peace & for which you can charge no
perticular Person or to he ther you do the Same Etc. Officio at your own Expence
without any fee or Keward whatsoever And more perticularly the business under
mentioned (Vizt.)

For making up the Freeholders Book & duplicate for the Sheriffe
[..] publick Orders of Sesions relating to the businesse of the County in
[..] eneral & not any Perticular Party
[..] he Charge & honble of Sending out his Majesties Orders in Councill relating to the
distempered Cattle & writeing Letters there with to the Severall Justices of the Peace
the Charge & trouble relating to the getting a Particular Accot. of the distemper
amoungst the Horned Castle in the Several Parishes & the brawing up a
perticular Accot. of the Slate of the sd. distemper in Each Parish to be sent to the
Lords of his Majesties privy Councill pursuant to their Order
For the Charge of the dedimons to Swear the Years Estreats of all Fines Etc. & for
making up the Essreals Etc. And all other publick businesse which happens
from time to time for the County in General

And what Fee you receive for Recording of Virtualers Licences & what
you appr. hend I am Intituled to for the Same the Justices refusing to let me
take any thing & yet take some of them 4s. Some 5s. for Clerkes Fees
After I have reced Your Answer (which Sd. beg may be as Soon as Possibles Sinte [..]
to Advise further upon this Affaire & will if you desire it requaint you with
what further happens & shall be very ready to join with my Brother Clerkes
of the peace in getting these Affaires regulated thinking it very hard &
Unreasonable to be Obliged to Serve a publick Offic & debusinesse for the
publick at my own Expences for nothing Be pleased to direct your Letter to
the to be Left at Tnr. Sam. Harris< no role > 's at his House in Castle Yard Hellbourn London
