John Sage< no role > ye Younger for an Assault

James Bradley< no role > of ye Parish, of St Mary white Chappell , in, the,
County of Middlesex Victualler John Cooke< no role > of ye Same Parish, and,
County Coachman John Sage< no role > ye Elder of Stratford in ye County
of Essex Coachman , Father of ye said Defendt & Joshua Sharp< no role > of
ye Parish, of White Chappell , aforesd Gentl severally make Oath
And first these Deponts James Bradley< no role > & John cooke< no role > for themselves
jointly & severally depose & say That in or about ye Month, of April
in the fifth, Year of His present Majesties Reign, (ye Defendt John
Sage
< no role > ye. Younger of Stratford in, ye. County of Essex Coachman being
in, ye Custody of one Lammas an Headborrough by Virtue of A Warant
for an Assault upon, one Henry Bassett< no role > ) they these Deponts. entered
into Recognizance before Clifford William Phillipps< no role > EsqrOne of His
Majties Juttices, of ye, peace for this County in ye several, Sumes of
Twenty pounds, A peice for yeAppearance of ye said Defendtat the
then next Quarter Sessions of yepeace to be held at Hicks Hall
in & for ye County of Middx aforesd.And ye said James Bradley< no role >
& John Sage< no role > ye Elder for themselves severally say that ye Defendt
John Sage< no role > yeYounger did appear at yesaid then next, Sessions of
yepeace And yesaid Henry Bassett< no role > having then & there preferred
& found an, Indictmtagainst him, for yesaid Assault (& he being
advised to traverse yesame) they these Deponts, enterd into Recognizance
in ye severall Sumes of twenty Pounds a peice & ye Defendtin, the
Sume of forty pounds for yetryall of yesaid indictments or for such,
like purpose And one Moses Peters< no role > then Clerk to ye said Justice
Phillyps was Employed therein, as Sollicitor for yesaid Defendt
And this DepontJohn Sage< no role > ye Elder for himself saith, that he paid
& caused to be paid to yesaid Moses Peters< no role > such, Sumes of money
as he demanded to bring yesaid Indictmt to tryall or any otherwise
to get him & his Bail, discharged of & from, their said Recognizances
which, he was by them, thereunto required & he promised & undertook
to do And this Depont did saveral, times supply yesaid Peters with,
a Coach for himself & his Friends from, Stratford aforesd to London,
on Accounts of his being imployed as aforesaid, And these Deponts
James Bradley< no role > & John Sage< no role > yeElder further say That they these
Deponts& yeDefendtdid by yedirection of yesaid Peters attend at
Hicks Hall aforesdat several of yethen next ensueing Sessions of ye
peace yesaid Peters telling them, one Time that nothing could be don
at one Sessions & at other times that nothing could be done at other
Sessions But after several Attendances as aforesdhe at last told
these Deponts (who were then, attending at Hicks Hall, aforesd) that
they might go about their businesses for he had withdrawn, their
Recognizances & they would hear no more of them Nor would any
harm, come to them on, that Account Or what yesaid Peters then
said to these Depontswas to that Effect With, which, Assertion, of ye
said Peters these Deponts(being utterly unacquainted with, Matters
of that kind) were & rested satisfied verily beleiving yesame to be
true And did not imagine nor were advised to yecontrary till, lately
