In Pursuance of the Order of Refference here unto Annexed Wee whose
Names are hereunto subscribed who were amongst others desired to inspect
the defects & want of reparations of Newprison att Clerkenwell in this
County and to Report to this Court Our Opinions touching what Repairs
are necessary and requisite to be done to the Same and touching the
Condition the Said Goal is Now in Do report to this Court as Followetts
That the Said Prison is in every part of it much out of Repair.

Imprimis

That the Roof is Some part of it intirely untiled and that through the whole
building it must be New ripped, it haveing been So long Since it was
done that the Rathes are all rotten and to go about to Patch it up again
will be throwing money away

That the Great Brick Arch goeing into the Yard is in so dangerous a
Condicon that it is Our Opinion that the Keepers and Prisoners are
in danger of their lives it being Fallen from the Main Wall Severall
inches and that there is an Absolute Necessity for takeing down the
Said Arch & rebuiliding the Same And that the inner gates belonging
to the Yard of the Said Prison is So Worn out & rotten that it is not
Sufficiently Secured against the Escape of the Prisoners Comitted to
the Said Prison

That the Flooring & Windows are very much out of Repair & that
the Wall adjoyneing he Mr Fullers garden wants another buttress
or is in danger of Falling

That Wee have taken the Assistance of Able Workmen to View the Said
Prison & make an Estimate of the charge that it will cost to putt the
Said Prison in necessary Repair who are of Opinion that for New Ripping
lathing lileing & Furring of the Rooff it being One hundred & Forty
Foot long & Eight & twenty Foot wide & for Mending the Gutters and
Plastering of the Dormers in the fore front & last Front on the outside
and for New Floorieing the Kitchen being two & twenty Foot long &
Eleaven Foot wide with Yellow deals & Oat Joyce with a New Front door
& door case & Window Frame to the Same And for New Flooreing the
