Hannah Byrom of Golden Lane of the pish of St Giles
without Cripplegate in this County spr maketh oath that she
this Depont within the space of two years last past went
often times to the house of Correcion att Clerkenwell in this
County to carry provisions [..] one Sophia Ballard< no role > a
prisoner in the sd prison and hath been often [..] yed
to carry beer into the said prison to the said Sophia Bal
-lard and that two bottles of beere were taken from this
Depont by Mrs Gregory the housekeeper of the sd prison
and that within the space of two years last past
above five & twenty psons have died in the sd prison
most of which have been starved to death with hunger
and cold (as this Deponent verily beleives) and that
one of the prisoners there took a piece of meat called
lights from out of the month of the said Mrs Gregory's
Dogg whereupon the said Gregory beat the said poore
woman for soe doing, and this Depont hath often times
seene the said Gregory cruelly & inhumanely beat & misuse

of drink to the said Ballard when she was very sick
but the said Mrs Gregory [..] this Depont to pay her
three farthings before she would permitt the said Ballard
to drink the said pint of drink, the said Gregory selling
a pint and a half of drink for three pence & a half
penny candle for a penny & half a pint of Geneva for
four pence which is sold for two pence half a pint abroad
