Order for preventing
Comittments to any
prisons in this County
PP only for Debt.}

This Court taking into Consideracon that the Sallary for the
maintenance of the Governour and Matron of the House of
Correccon in Clerkenwell in the said County hath of late Years arisen
out of the Rent received for the Prison called the New Prison erected
at the Charge of the said County And that such Employment of the said
Rent was in case of the Inhabitants in the said county who were
formerly charged with a Tave for the said Sallary And that this Per-
-quisites belonging to the Keeper of the said New Prison out of which
the said Rent ought to arise have been lately much impaired by Reason
of the Comitments of Night Walkers or other disorderly Persons to Prisons
in the said County proper only for Detainemt. of Debtors particularly
Finsbury prison St. Katherines Prison, the Prison belonging to the
Dean and Chapter of St. Pauls, and the Round Horse of the Bayliffer
place And that Comittments for matters of misdemeanours or Breach
of the Peace to any Prison proper only for Debtors are unwarrantable
and illegal and that yet nevertheless the late usage therein hath is
far prevaited that without express prohibition to the Contrary a
perfect Redress will hardly be effected For Remedy therefore in the
Premisses this Court doth Order that the respective Keepers of the
said Prisons proper only for Debtors or any Agent under them
shall not at any time hereafter take into any of their Custodys or
detaine any person or persons whatever brought to any of the
said Prisons for misdemeanours or Breach of the Peace (any
Warrant of any Justice or Justices of the Peace for this County be
any Delivery by any Constable Headborough or any other Officer therein
in any wise notwithstanding) And all Constables Headboroughs Watch
men and Beadles in the said County are hereby required and enjoy-
ned to for bear the carrying and Delivering of any person or Persons
apprehended by any of them either in any of their Watches or by virtue
or Colour of any Warrant or Warrants from any Justice or Justices
of the Peace for the said County or otherwise unto the said Prisons
proper only for Debtors or any other Prison or Prisons of that
