July 1800.

Your Committee next proceeded to Enquire into
the Case of Mary Rich< no role > stated by the Jury and having
caused Mary Rich< no role > to be brought before them she gave
the following Account Vizt.. "That her Mother had brought
her during the first Week of her Confinement two
Polones some Radishes and Onions and Bread a 3d.
Loaf ¼ lb.. Cheese, that a Fortnight afterwards her Mother
brought her two Black Puddings ¼ lb.. Cheese a 3d. Loaf
and Radishes and Onions that the Governor had given
her Broth every other Day since she had been here and
that there was always Rice and Potatoes in it That she
caught Cold in the Cell the Blanket was taken from her
one Night for a Woman in Labour she had it brought
back the next Night and a Rug that she had a Pain
in her head on the Monday before the Blanket was
taken from her she was in the Chapel on Sunday and
it was the next Day she had a pain in her Head That
she did not Complain to any one body but her fellow
Prisoner she never told Mr.. Key's the Turnkey or Mr..
Webb the Surgeon of it and being Questioned how she
lived when at home she said that her Mother has
Five Children and buy's about 5 lbs.. of Meat in a Week
that her Mother had lately laid in, her Father earns
12sh.. a Week her Mother makes Soldiers buttons she has
only one penny a Gross for making them she cant get
much at it, that she did run about in the Wet in the
Prison without her Shoes and the Man Mr.. Key's
told her he would lock her up if she did so any more
that she got cold by it,The Nurse who
attends the Sick was also brought before your Committee
and being Examined said that from the Conversation
she had had with Mary Rich< no role > she was sure she was
a bad little Girl that she had told her that she had
been with several Boys on the Stairs in a way not
proper to mention and had received half pence
from them and that if the Gentleman who she had
Indicted for the Assault upon her had given her what
he promised her she would never have made any
Complaint against him or made any Alarm.
