£28..15..0 as a full Compensation for what he engaged to perform by his
Contract but that the said William Staines< no role > should receive the Sum then due to
him for repairs on Account of th said Contract, That the Committee had received
the Sum of £28..15..0 from Mr Staines and had cancelled his Agreement.

And the said Committee further Report, That they
Advertized for Proposals for Paving the Carriage Way of the said Street with
Aberdeen Granite Stone, That the Committee received several Proposals and
Examined the same, that it appeared that the Proposal of Messrs. William
Meredith and Son was the Lowest they having undertaken to take up the present
Pebble Paving in the Haymarket and to relay with New 9 Inch Granite Squared
Stones, upon the Old Pavement becoming their property at a Nett Charge of Six
Shillings and three pence per Square yard, to reset the Curb Stone at 1½ P Foot
and new Moorstone Curb at 1s..5d per Foot and therefore the Committee agreed
with the said William Meredith< no role > and son for the same and Ordered the Clerk to
prepare a proper Contract for that purpose which having been done and approved
of by the Committee was executed accordingly: That the Carriage Way of the said
Street has been New Paved with Aberdeen Granite Stone in a substantial and workman
like manner agreeable to the Terms of the said Contract and the following Bill was
delivered to Your Committee for the same Vizt.

To, William Meredith< no role > & Son,

For taking up the Old Pavement of the Carriage way of Saint James Haymarket
& laying down New 9 Inch Squared Granite in lien of the same, the Old Materials
to be the Property of the Contractor as per Contract.
