Order against
Street Robbers< no role >

Whereas His most gracious Majesty by a Letter from
the Right Honorable the Lord Viscount Townshend, one
of His Majesty< no role > 's Principal Secretaries of State, bearing
Date the Eighth of this Instant October, hath been pleased
to Siginify to the Justices of this County how much His
Majesty is concerned at the frequent Robberies of late
committed in the Streets of London, Westminster , and Parts
adjacent, and that in order to prevent the Same Directions
have been already given for the Payment of a Reward
of Forty Pounds for every Felon returned from Transportation
before his Term expired, by any Persons, who Shall discover
and cause Such Felon to be apprehended and convicted.

And it having been represented to His Majesty< no role > , that Such
Felons and other Robbers and their Accomplices, are
incouraged and harbored by Persons who keep Night.
Houses, and that the Gaming. Houses, and Shops where
Geneva and other Spirits and Strong Liquors are drank to
Excess, much contribute to the Corruption of the Morals
of those of an Inferiour Rank, and to the leading them
into these wicked Courses, His Majesty< no role > has been
pleased, in his further Care and regard to the Safety
and Welfare of his Subjects, to recommend it in the
Strongest Manner< no role > to the Justices of Peace of this County,
to employ their utmost Care and Vigilance in the
preventing and Supprelsing of these Disorders, and in
bringing the Offenders to condign Punishment; and for
that purpose to meet from time to Time in their
severall Divisions, and cause frequent Searches to
be made for the apprehending of Rogues, Vagabonds
and other disorderly Persons. And His Majesty< no role > having
Very much at Heart the Performance of this Service,
wherein the Honour of his Government and the Safety
