Representacon agt. Sr. Harry
Dutton Colt
< no role > Bart . a Justice of
peace of Middx.}

To the Right Honble. the Lords Commissioners for the Custody of
the Great Seal of Great Britain.

May it please your Lordships.

We his Majesties Justices of the peace for the County of Middlesex in Sessions
Assembled being deeply concerned for the Honour and Credit of the
Comission of the peace for this County think it our Duty humbly to lay
this Representation before your Lordships against Sr. Harry Dutton
Colt
< no role > Bart .

Lawrence St. Loe< no role > Esqr being a shelterer in the new Mint in the
Hamlet of Wapping Stepney and Charged before several of his
Maties Justices of the peace with being a Ring leader and principal
promoter of the Riots and disorders lately comitted in the New Mint he
the said Lawrence St. Loe for want of Sufficient Sureties to answer
the same was with several other rioters committed to the Goal of
Newgate and being brought down to the Old Bayly with the said
Rioters the said St. Loe, was remanded to Newgate and referred
for Bail to the Committing Justices.

And there being a standing Order of this Court which the said
Sr. Harry Dutton Colt was privy to, That no Justice should bail the
Comittment of another without acquainting him, which Order is
conformable to the constant practice of the Court of Kings Bench The
said Sr. Harry Dutton Colt hath Notwithstanding such regulating
Order and Order of reference from the Court of Old Bayly Sollicited
several Gentlemen in the Commission of the peace to join with
him in bailing the said St. Loe which he has since done and the
said Lawerence St. Loe has not appear'd tho' since indicted for the
Fact aforesaid upon which Conduct of Sr. Harry Dutton Colt< no role > this
Court Ordered a Letter to be sent him that he might appear and give
an account of his proceeding in this matter But instead of appearing
he hath sent the annext Letter to the Clerk of the peace justifying
his irregular Conduct and highly reflecting upon the Gentlemen
in the Comission of the peace from whence and the said Sr. Harry
Dutton Colt's conduct and Character they cannot but apprehend, he
defigus to continue the same practices.

We therefore beg leave humbly to submitt it to your
Lordships Consideration how difficult it must be for Gentlemen
to do their Duty and preserve the peace if there be regard had
to standing Orders and a Gentleman so often put out of the
Commission for Male Administration suffered to triumph in
his irregularities.
