that whatever authority any of us shall be further entrusted
with, shall be always applyed and exerted for the Safety
of his Majestys person and Government And for the
preservation of publick peace and tranquility within this
County. All which we most humbly represent & Submit
to your Lordships wisdom and Justice

Answer 7

As to the diligence and Endeavours of the Justices of ye. peace
for the Service of his Majty. & his Government, That they have
and will endeavour to establish the Reputation of their
Comission, Is what will be hoped & be believed from so many
worthy Gentlemen And'tis also hoped that they will think
the same Countenance & Encouragement as was enjoyed
by their predecessors will always be given by the Comission
of Goal Delivery at the Old Baily altho' they should not
be part of that Comission no more than their predecessors.
They are pleased to assure your Lordship that what ever
authority shall be further entrusted with them shall be
always exerted for the Safety of his Majestys person
and Government & for the publick peace & tranquility;
The Lord Mayor & Court of Aldermen desire to be
entrusted with no more Authority than their predecessors.
But humbly hope that considering the City built the Sessions
House & the Goal, and are at the charge of repairing both,
maintaining all the prisoners aswell those of Middlesex
as London, The charge of Officers attending on the
Comission and all the Entertainments on publick
occasions and have been at other very great expences
to support the honour and Dignity of this Comission: And
considering no imputation can be justly charged on
them, Whereby the publick is in any manner prejudiced
They perswade themselves from your Lordships Known
Judgment and Justice that you will please to permit
the Comission of Goal Delivery and the Comission of
the peace to continue in the same Channell and with
the same powers and Jurisdictions as usual without
any Innovation whatsoever.
