A Complaint And Appeal being made to this Court by the Mayor
Commonalty and Citizens of the City of London Governors of the House of
the Poor commonly called St. Bartholomews Hospital near West Smithfield
against a certainrate or assessment madewholes contained in the [..] or appointment med on ye 23d. day of [..] Decr 1767 by the Church wardens and
Overseers of the Poor of theParish of St. Bartholomew the less for a Relief of the Poor of the said ParishUpon hearing the said Petition

A Appears in Evidence to this Court that Henry the 8th. late King
of England by Charter bearing date the 13th. day of January in the 38th.
Year of his Reign did amongst other things Grant to these Mayor and
Commons and Citizens of the City of London All the late Hospital of St.
Bartholomews in West Smithfield next London and all other things whatsor.
to the said Hospital appertaining or belonging And also all the Seik Compass
Cricuit and Precinct & Close of the said late Hospital And by his sd
Charter did Grant to the said Mayor and Commons and Citizens Lanes
Houses Gardens Rents Reversions & Hereditaments amounting to a
considerable Value To hold and Enjoy the same for ever To their own
proper use and behalf And there by Directed that the said late Hospital
of Bartholomews shod. thereafter be a place & House for the Poor there to
be Ordained and should be called the house of the poor in the Smithfield next
London of the foundation of King Henry the 8th. It appears that ever since
the said Grant the sd Hospital has been made use of for the relief of
