Whereas Elizabeth Cox< no role > Singlewoman
was on or about the Fourth day of April Instt. 1726
Delivered of a Male Bastard Child (named to John) in the parish of
St. Leonard Eastcheap in the City of London which said Male
Bastard Child is already become Chargeable to the said parish and
is likely so to continue Therefore we whose hands are
hereunto set two of his Majestys Justices of the peace for the Said
City (Quor unus) and both of us residing next to the Limits where
the parish Church of the said parish of St Leonard Eastcheap
Standeth having upon the complaint of the Church Wardens and
Overseers of the poor of the parish aforesaid taken upon us the
hearing and Examination of the cause and circumstances
of the premisses defind by the Examination of the said
Elizabeth Cox< no role > taken upon Oath and other
proofs That one John Taylor< no role > who keeps a Coffee house
at the Bunch of Grapes in ye Tower is the Reputed Father of the said
Male Bastard child And we do therefore accordingly
Adjudge the said John Taylor< no role > to be the
Reputed father of the said Male Bastard Child and we do
Order that the said John Taylor< no role >
shall on sight of this our Order pay or cause to be paid unto
the Church Wardens and Overseers of the poor of the said parish
of St Leonard Eastcheap London some or one of them the
Sum of Three pounds a ten Shillings
of Lawful money of Great Brittain to much being by them
already expended for and towards the maintence of the
said Male Bastard child and other incident Charges & expenses
and also That he the said John Taylor< no role > Shall
on Tuesday in every Week, Weekly from and after
the date hereof so long as the said Male Bastard child shall
continue to be chargeable unto the said parish pay or cause to
be paid unto the said Church Wardens and Overseers of the poor of the
Said parish or one of them the Sum of Two Shillings & Six pence
of like lawful money for and for towards the maintenance and
keeping of the said Male Bastard Child In Witness whereof
we the said Justices have here unto set our hands this 26th
day of April Anno Dni 1726
