Henry Sydenham< no role > Gent and John Rollas< no role > Engraver both of the Stamp Office
Lincolnss Inn Severally make Oath that they haveing intimation of
some quantities of double Penny Stamp paper sold by the Dept. and
Walter Mills< no role > his brother (under Clerks or Writers in the Six Clerks
Office) which was Counterfeit or Forged Procured a Warrt. from Mr Justice
Saunders and Fuller upon Suspition for the apprehending of the said John Mills< no role > and
Walter Mills< no role > And these Deponts. Further Severally Depote that upon Search
made by them the Fourth of March last past in the Evening for the sd.
John Mills< no role > at his Lodgeings at one Mr. Keens a Tallow Chandler
in Fetter Lane they found a Coach at the door wherein was a large
sack and a Person in a Night Gown at or near the said Coach
which these Depont. were informed was the said John Mills< no role > these
Deponts. thereupon apprehended the said John Mills< no role > who some litle
time after made his Escape from the Depont. John Roll< no role > as (Whilst this
Depont. Henry Sydenham< no role > was Secureing the said Sack which was
afterwards Sealed up in the Presence of thesaidConstable and
Keen and upon Search then they likewise found in the sd John Mills< no role >
Lodgeing a Suspitions Screw) and upon fresh Pursuit the sd. John
Mills
< no role > was retaken and Secured safe all night and next day being
carried before the right Honoble the Lord Mayor of London and
the Sack being then Produced and opend there was found therein Eight
Ream one Quire and odd Sheets of paper with the double Penny
Stamp on Each Street (all Counterfeits as this Depont. John Roll< no role > as
Deposeth) and his Lord Ship Enquireing of the said John Mills< no role > how hie
came by that Quantity of Stamp paper his Answr. was that his said
brother Walter Mills< no role > brought a person to him of whom he said he
bought a hundred pounds worth upon which my Lord Ordering him
to send for that Person he said he did not know him but by his
brothers recomendation And the said John Mills< no role > being Ordered to send
for his said brother he first said he would but afterwards said he
was gone and giveing no Satisfactory Acct how he came by the said
Stamp paper my Lord comitted him the said John Mills< no role > to Newgate
And these Deponts) further Severally Depose that upon Search made
on the Sixth of the said March after the said Walter Mills< no role > they
