AD 1716.
Wee find that at the time in the Indictment mentioned Conrade
de Gols had a Lawfull Authority to Sign Notes for the Governour
and Company of the Banks of England> for payment of money
and that he by Vertue of that Authority did on the 16th January
1715
Sign a Bank Note for payment of Two hundred and
Twenty pounds put the Note as Originally made.
That the Note was delivered to the Defendt. un altered. That
on the day year and at the place mentioned in the Indictmt.
the Defendt with intent put the Indictment did caze and
alter the Note by Altering the Wort two and makeing it
five Whereby the Sume mencon'd in the Note was made
five hundred and Twenty pounds instead of two hundred
and Twenty pounds. That on the same 19th day of January
the Defendent by Colour of the said Note So Alterd rec'd
the Sume of Five hundred and Twenty pounds of ye Governour
sand Company of the Bank of England upon the said Note
If upon the Whole matter the Defendt. be Guilty of
Forging or Counterfeiting the Note mencon'd in the
Indictment put the Indictment. We find him
guilty, If not, We find him Not Guilty,
