The Examinations of Elizabeth Ganlines< no role > & Sarah Joseph< no role > Taken the thirteenth day
of November 1786 before me One his Majestys Justices of the peace in and for
the said County

Elizabeth< no role > the Wife of Lawrence Gardiner< no role > at No. 7 Mercers Row Shadwell
Mariner says on Oath one Pat Clemens< no role > came to her this afternoon about the hour of
Three and asked if Mrs. Neale was bad who answered she was that he said Then I will
not trouble her let me leave what I have got in Your Room [..]
That he left Two Case Bottles and a Long neck bottle which he past at the
Top of her Bureau bed That said Clemens had another Bottle containing pepper
mint which was broke and the Liquor spilt about her Room says said Pot
Clemensandwas in said Room when Foreister and Elbey came into the house
and she believes made his Escape backwards-which Bottles they took and
Thomas Neale< no role > who was in the forenoon of the said house

Sarah Joseph< no role > the wife of Joseph Gabriel< no role > of New Gravel Lane Shadwell Schoolmaster
says this morning she heard a Knocking at the Fore door of her said husband house that she got up
openedunlocked the Street Door and left it on the latch and went to bed in the dark and between
the Hours of Six and Seven [..] That she opened the Shop when Tom Neale< no role > came in with
Two other men who she asked what they had brought these that she saw them roll one
Cash in which she doth not know neither Oath she know how the other casks came in
that he husband got up came down she making a noise to know what they were bringing
in-Says they all Three went away saying there was nothing there that would hart
her-That some time after they all Three came and the said Tom Neal took some Liquor
out of a Cask [..] two [..] Square Bottles produced and afterwards he took a Fourteen pound
weight and broke one of the Cask and put the pieces ito a Basket his and left in
at the time-Says they came again and took away One Square bottle and Four other
bottles as she supposes full of Liquor Says she went to take some of the Liquor out of
One of the Casks for to drink herselfsaysand that there were more casks brought in then are
house produced [..]

Middx: The Examination of Thomas Brittain< no role > Taken this thirtieth day of November 1786 before
me one of his Majestys Justices of the peace in and for the said County

Thomas Brittain< no role > on his saith says he it says at the House of Joseph who passes
for the husband of Sarah Joseph present.-No. 56 New Gravel Lane Shadwell
dealer in Old Iron That he went home last night between the hours of Seven and
Eight and went to bed at nine o Clock in a Room one pair of Stairs above the Room
where his Land lord and wife lays that he did not go out after until this Morning at about
a Quarter before seven-Says about a Quarter before Five he heard [..] somebody
knock at the door and soon after the Watchman came past Five that he went
out at the Street door which was bolted and locked when and that he [..] unbolted
and unlocked said door to get out of said house
