THE Information of William Wright< no role > of North Street in the Hamlet
of Poplar in the County aforesaid Sawyer

Taken this 13th. Day of March 1783 before
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said County

Who being upon Oath saith that about the hour of Five oClock in the Afternoon
of Sunday last. he was Backward in the Wash house of his
house at Poplar aforesaid cutting a piece of Bread, he heard
Somebody poking at the Key hole of his door and saw a
Key put into the said Key Hole and hallowed out (supporting
[..] same Children were poking a Nail into the Key hole)
and said who is that trying to open the door I will give it
you. That he immediately went to the door at which Instant
John Lewis< no role > (a prisoner) now here present opened the door
by means of a Pick Lock Key now here produced. and which he held in his hand and
Put his head and Shoulders into the house and asked
Informant if a person lived there whose name as this
Informant believes he said was Ward. to which Informant
answered there was no such person lived there neither did he
know of any such person there about. and upon Informants
asking him what Authority he had for opening his
door the said John Lewis< no role > immediately took to his heels
and ran away but being pursued by him this Informant
and one Thomas Rule< no role > he was apprehendedandbrought
back and sent to Poplar Watch house . And this Informant
lastly Saith that he verily believes the said John Lewis< no role >
broke into and Entered his house in manner as is above
Set forth with Intent the Goods and Chattels of him
this Informant feloniously to Steal. take and Carry
away
