taken upon Oath before me, John Sherwood< no role > Esquire One
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said County and Liberty, this
Twenty Eighth Day of March in the Year of our Lord
One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty two
Who saith, That about
Ten Minutes after Seven OClock this Evening he was Stopped by Two Men (now present
who call themselves Samuel Ford< no role > and Edward Skandret) near King Edward Stairs
Wapping one of which (Ford) pulled him by the Skirt of the Coat and said Halloa
at which Instant the other (Skandret) Stooped under his Arm and took her Watch
out of his Pocket. which Informant took from him almost as soon as he had
taken it out. and Ford at the same time [..] attempted to take his Handkerchief out of his
right hand Pocket which he had got three parts out when Informant caught
hold of his hand and prevented his taking the same. That Informant not having
last any thing and not seeing any person near him to Assit him in Taking them
Suffered the [..] for that time to Escape. But that in about Ten Minutes afterwards
Observing the above two men attempting to pick two a Gent lemans Pockets who [..] were coming
down Wapping he called to them and told them if they did not mind. those two
men would Pick their Pockets as they had attempted to do his. Whereupon Skand [..]
Crosed the way and Asked Informant what he said when Informant took him
by the Collar and told him he would bring him to Justice at which Instant
Ford came and Seized Informant by the Collar I told him he would Knock his
Teeth down his Throat if he did not let Skandret go. but Assistance coming to him
he with John Marshall< no role > a Headborough of Wapping secured them both & brought
them to the above Office.
