The Voluntary Information of James Smith< no role >
taken on Oath before me John Smart< no role > and James
Spagg
< no role > two of his Majesty's Justices of the peace
in and for the Said County this 13th: day of
February 1772.

Who saith that on Sunday the 2d. day of February Instant he
this Informant being (then on board the Devonshire East
India Ship than lying or being at or near Blackwall
One Lawrence Baker< no role > being also on board the Said Ship
he did in this Informants presence take a certain piece
of Copper and put or Wrapd the Same in his Bedding
and then took the Said Copper so being put or Wrapped
up and carried the same on Shore Saith that this was
done about three O Clock in the afternoon of the said Sunday
Saith that on Tuesday following the said Lawrence Baker< no role >
came to him at his Lodgings at one Mr. Wades in
St. Catherines and Said to him that his Landord
one Peter Higgins< no role > andhad been to Sell [..] the Copper
aforementioned but could not but when or if [..] he
could he should have a share of itSaith thatto which
he replied he would not have any part or Share of it
This Informant having before acquainted and Informed
Capt Hoare the Captain or Commander of the aforesaid
Ship called the Devonshire that the Said [..]
Lawrence Baker< no role > had Stoln the Said Copper
