The Information of John Vaughan< no role > one
of the Watchmen of the Parish of Saint Mary
le Bone and in the County of Middlesex and
Peter Astten< no role > one of the Watchmen of the Parish
of Saint James in the Liberty of Westminster
Taken before me one of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace in and for the said County City
and Liberty this 15th. day of September
1769.

Who Severally and respectively make Oath and say and first the
said John Vaughan< no role > for himself Saith that as he was going his rounds this
morning between two and three O Clock (being the day and year aforesaid)
he observered four Persons who are now Present and call themselves John
wood
< no role > stephred Strutton, John Bagnall< no role > , and Peter Graham< no role > Lurking and
Loitering about several streets in Oxford Road , and Suspecting by their
manner and behavior there intentions were to Rob some house there about,
he Watches there for some time when he saw one of them go down into the
Area of Mr. Cocharn Linen Draper the Corner of Wells Street Oxford
Road . This Informant then made up to Mr. Cochrans and found that
three of the said Persons were in the Area and that they had broke into
the lower part of the said house that the other person whose Name is
wood this Informant saw standing at the corner of wells Street in order
as this Informant Apprehents to alarm or give the other three who were in
the Area Notice if any body approached, this Informant laid hold of the
said Wood and asked him what Business he had out at that time in the
morning, To which wood replied, he was going to see Fire that was
then burning in the Haymarket this Informant then told him that he
was a lying lurking raseal that he knews he was upon some bad design and
asked him where the rest of his Companiones were Wood answered that
he had none and, Wondered this Informant Should Suspect him to have
any bad design, for that what he had told this Informant was really the
Truth. this Informant again told him he was a lyar for that he had
but some little time before seen him in company with the other three persons
abovementioned and who were then in the said Area. Saith that after
he had so Conversed with wood as a aforesaid he put him into the area and
was going for more assistance but recollecting that while he was gone for
assistance they might Escape he returned to the said Mr. Cockrans house
at which Instant the other Informant Peter Astten< no role > came to this Informations
assistance when he gave them in Charge to the said Peter Astten< no role > which this
Informant got more assistance who conveyed them all four to the Watch
house. Saith that after they had been so conveyed to the Watch House
as aforesaid he went back together with Mr. Cochran (whom this Informant
had called up on finding the said four Persons had so broke into the Area
and dwelling house as aforesaid) to Examine the said House Area
when they found that the Lock of the Area Gate had been forced open and
