An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish of Saint Thomas
within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the sixth day of July in the thirty ninth
year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas
Shelton Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view
of the body of a man whose name to the Jurors is unknown now here lying dead by the oath of Robert Sangster< no role >
Luke Cannon< no role > William Howard< no role > James Davies< no role > Thomas Crooks< no role > William Reynolds< no role > Josiah Maynard< no role > John Lee< no role >
John Brown< no role > William Cox< no role > Thomas Collier< no role > James Archer< no role > William Hutchinson< no role > and James Smith< no role > good and lawful
men of the Borough of Southwark aforesaid in the County aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged
to inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said Man whose name to the Jurors aforesaid
is unknown came to his death say upon their oath that the said man whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is
unknown not having the fear of God before his eyes but being moved and seduced by the instigation of the Devil
on the first day of July in the year aforesaid with force and arms at the parish of Saint George the Martyr within the
Borough and County aforesaid in and upon himself the said person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown feloniously
wilfully and of his malice aforethought did make an Assault And that the said person whose name
to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown a certain pistol of the value of twelve pence loaded with gunpowder
and a leaden bullet which he the said person whose name to Jurors aforesaid is unknown in his right
hand then and there had and hold to at and against the head of himself the said person whose name to the Jurors
aforesaid is unknown did then and there feloniously wilfully and of his malice aforethought street off and discharge
giving to himself then and there with the leaden bullet aforesaid so shot off and discharged from the said pistol by force
of the Gunpowder aforesaid one mortal wound in and through the head of himself the said person whose name to the Jurors
aforesaid is unknown of which said mortal wound he the said person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown from the said
first day of July in the year aforesaid until the fifth day of the same month of July in the same year as well at the said parish
of Saint George the Martyr within the Borough and County aforesaid as also at the abovementioned parish of Saint Thomas< no role >
within the Borough and County aforesaid did languish and languishing did live and on the same day and year last
aforesaid at the parish last aforesaid within the Borough and County aforesaid the said person whose name to the Jurors
aforesaid is unknown of the said mortal wound did die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say
that the said person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown in manner and form aforesaid feloniously
wilfully and of his malice aforethought did kill and murder himself against the peace of our said Lord the King his
Crown and dignity. And that the said person whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown at the time of committing
the felony and murder aforesaid in manner and form aforesaid had is Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements within the
Borough of Southwark aforesaid in the County aforesaid or elsewhere to the knowledge of the said Jurors In Witness
whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Jurors have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day
year and place first above written
