Depositions of Witnesses taken at London that is
to say, at the Parish of Saint Botolph without
Aldersgate in the Ward of Aldersgate without in
London aforesaid this 13th day of May 1799 on view
of the body of Elizabeth Barwick< no role > now here
lying Dead.

Mary wife of William Cole< no role > a Porter maketh Oath that she with
her Husband hath rented an Apartment in the House No. 43 Aldersgate
Street London about seven yearThat a little before one on Saturday
afternoon level Deponent was going up stairs to throw some dirty walk
out at the top of the house that at the top of the stairs she found the
deced hanging by a CordDept was very much alarmed and ran down
Stairs to the bottom of the house and acquainted a Mr. Thorpe who< no role >
lodger in the same house Mr. Thorpe immediately went up stairs
Dept went DeptThat in about five minutes after Dept went up
Stairs and found the deced lying on the floor in her (the deceds) own Appartment
a first room at the top of the house near were she was to hanging
that she appeared to be quite Deadpart of a Cord round her neck
that a Surgeon who had been sent for endeavoured to bleed her that a
very little blood (only a few Drops) came from herthat the deced was
a married Woman and her and her husband used to quarrel very
muchThat the deced and her husband came to lodge at the said
house a Week before last Christmasthat the deced used to be often
intoxicatedDeponent says that the deced came down stairs about nine
oClock on Saturday Morning last and spoke to Dept sayed here pointing
to her right Eye he (meaning her the deceds husband)her givengave me a blowon Fridaylast Night [..] and sayed
he has given me a cut over my Eye pointing to a smallplacescratch over her left

William Thorpe< no role > being sworn says that he rent the [..] lower appartment
of the House No. 43 Aldersgate street that he is a Cordwainer by trade
that a little before one on Saturday afternoon a Woman in the said house
of the name of Glanister called to Dept and sayed for Gods take Thorpe
come up stairs the Woman has hung herself in the GarrettDept went
up stairs and found the deced hanging by a Cord fastened to a staple
[..] over the side of the Garrett DoorDept cut her down and placed her
on the Floor in the Roomthat she was warm but appeared quite
Deadthat she had a Cord tied slack round her petticoatsDept went for a
Surgeon who came immediately and tried to bleed the deced that very little
blood came from herDept sent for the deceds husband whom Dept had
seen go out that Morning between nine and tenthat the deced used
