London Deposition of a Witness taken at London
that is to say at the parish of Saint Stephen
Coleman Street in the Ward of Coleman
Street in London aforesaid this 28th. day
of October 1797 on view of the body of
Ann Rogers< no role > now here lying Dead

Moses Rogers< no role > a Watchman of Coleman street Ward and
a Lodger at Mr Woottens No< no role > 11 Whites Alley Coleman street
maketh Oath that a little after eight on Thursday Night last
upon Depts. going up to his Appartment a two pair of Stairs
Room in saidRoomHouse he found the Door locked inside
Dept. called the deced his wife by Name & tryed to force the
Door-two of the Women Lodgers in the House came up -
Dept. & the Women tryed to force the Door open one of the
Women forced one of the Pannels of the Door out upon which
Dept. got then the Door into the Room & one of the Women
giving him a Light he saw the deced hanging by a small
piece of Cord fastened to a Nail near the Cieling of the Room
by the fire side - Dept. fell her she was quite Cold and Dead Dept.
got a Knife & cut the Cord by which she was suspended
and Dept. & the Women placed her on the Bed - says the
deced was about fifty eight years of Age - says he left
the deced in his Room about four oClock same afternoon
that she was then walking up and down the Room quite in
a melancholy state. Says the deced has been in a melancholy
and disordered state these two years and a half - very
much frightened and alarmed at any Noise or anything
moving

NB. Two Women Lodgers in the House confirmed Rogers as to the Door being looked
inside his getting thro the Door & finding the deced in the situation of hanging as described
by him & that she had been in a melancholy & disordered state the time he mentioned
in his deposition.
