Southwark Depositions of a Witnesses taken at the Parish
of Saint John within the Borough of Southwark
in the County of Surrey this 2d. day of September
1797 on view of the body of a Man unknown
now here lying Dead.

John Law< no role > of Wool Court in the parish of Saint Olave
within the Borough of Southwark Waterman maketh Oath
that about nine oClock this Morning Dept being in a
Barge lying at waltons wharf some a personsnearhalloed
out & sayed here is a drowned man Dept. looked round
and saw the deced floating upon the water between
the Barge Dept. was in & Yox halls wharf which
adjoint Waltons Wharf. Dept. got into a Boat
near the Barge that onebelonging & assortedMark Birdwhowas inthe
Boat to get the deced into the Boat
Dept. took hold
of the deced & Bird rowed the Boat to the Shore to
Battle Bridge Stairs where they landed the deced
That the deced appeared to have been some time in the
Water decently dressed-that they found a Watch in his fob pocket
some Month peices belonging to a Musical Instrument
a very small leather case with a small foreign silver peice in it-and
a Gold Ring with some Hair in it hanging to the Chain of the
Watch. a Handkf in one of his Coat Pockets & a Tobacco
Box in one of his Coat Pockets-
