An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London, that is to say,
at the parish of Saint Bartholomew the Great in the Ward of Farringdon without in London aforesaid on she
twenty eighth day of November in the thirty third Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the
Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth Before Thomas
Shelton Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view
of the Body of William Tallant< no role > now here lying dead by the Oath of Prince Edward King, John Castle< no role > , William
Bart, Philip Evans< no role > , John Butcher< no role > , Richard Thompson< no role > , William Davies< no role > , John Yeates< no role > , Richard Morrison< no role >
Richard Crossley< no role > , John Scott< no role > , John Dolphin< no role > , Peter White< no role > , William Packridge< no role > and Richard Benson< no role > good and
lawful men of the City of London aforesaid who being now here duly chosen Sworn and charged to Inquire for
our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said William Tallant< no role > came to his death say upon
their Oath that on the Eighteenth day of November in the thirty third Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord< no role > George
the third King of Great Britain Ct. about the hour of Nine in the Night of the same day at the parish of Saint
Luke in the County of Middlesex a certain Woman whose Name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown did
Raise Hue and Cry after the said William Tallant< no role > on a charge then and there made by her against the
Said William Tallant< no role > of having then and there feloniously assaulted and Robbert her the said Woman
whose name to the Jurors aforesaid is unknown of a bonnet against His Majesty< no role > 's peace and that the said
William Tallant< no role > did then and then fly for the same and that one James Boyle< no role > did peaceably require the
Said William Tallant to Surrender himself and did then and there endeavour peaceably to apprehend and take
the said William Tallant< no role > for the Cause aforesaid in Order that he the said William Tallant< no role > might be conveyed
before some one or Other of His Majesty< no role > 's Justices of the peace to be further death with according to Law And
the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do further say that after the said James Boyle< no role > had peaceably
Required the said William Tallant< no role > to Surrender himself and had peaceably endeavoured to apprehend
and take the said William Tallant< no role > for the Cause aforesaid he the said William Tallant< no role > did then and there
Obstinately Refuse to Surrender himself to the said James Boyle< no role > butand did then and there continue his flight
Whereupon the said James Boyle< no role > [..] in the said William Tallant Justifiably and of inevitable necessety did
Attack and assault and that she said James Boyle< no role > a certain Blanderbass loaded with Gun powder and two
london Bullets of the value of five shillings which he the said James Boyle< no role > in both his hands then and there
had and held to at and against the said William Tallant Justifiably and of inevitable Necessity and in order
to prevent the flight of him the said William Tallant< no role > and to apprehend and take him for the
Cause aforesaid did then and there Shoot off and discharge Giving to him the said William
Tallant then and there with the leader Bullets aforesaid shot off and discharged from the said
Blanderbuss by force of the Gun powder aforesaid two Mortal Wounds in and upon the back of
him she said William Tallant each of the depth of three Inches and of the width of half an Inch
of which said Mortal Wounds he the said William Tallant< no role > from the said Eighteenth day of
November in the Year aforesaid until the twenty seventh day of the same month of November
in the same Year as well at the said parish of Saint Luke in the County aforesaid as also
at the said paris of Saint Bartholomew the Great in the Said Ward of Farringdon without in London
aforesaid did languish and languishing did live On which said twenty Seventh day of
November in the Year aforesaid at the parish last aforesaid in the Ward aforesaid in London
aforesaid the said William Tallant< no role > of the said Mortal Wounds did die And so the
Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said James Boyle< no role > him the said
William Tallant< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid Justifiably and of inevitable
neccssity did Kill and slay In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Prince
Edward King< no role > the Foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his
Fellow in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and Seals the day Year
and peace first above written.
