Continued Wednesday 13. May 1795.

Considerations respecting the attendance of the Prisoners at
Chapel; and the methods proper to be taken in order to Admonish
and instruct them.

It cannot for a moment admit a doubt, that in a well regulated
Prison, the Prisoners should duly attend Divine Service and at other
times receive admonition and Instruction from the Minister. The
Question is how both these benefits may be applied to them with the
[..] reatest probability of Success.

The Seats which are now Assigned to the Men & Women Prisoners
[..] n the Chapel are incommodious. They are not always large enough to
[..] ontain all who ought to be present, nor are they placed in a
[..] situation convenient for encouraging the attention of those who
occupy them. Those who stand up on the nearest Bench may
[..] ee and hear what is going on in the Chapel while the rest who
remain at the further end of the Pow are in a manner excluded from
the Service which they cannot see performed, and must hear very
imperfectly: It would hardly be adviseable to bring them forwarder
into the Chapel which is not too large for the accommodation
of the Inhabitants of the Hospital and Precinct. If the present Seat
cannot be rendered more commodious, perhaps the Prisoners might
be seated in the Gallery.

But Divine Service it is imagined, might be Solemnized
with Greater prospect of good effect upon the Prisoners, either in
a convenient room appointed for the purpose in the intended
alterations of the Prison, or in the Chapel at an Hour different
from the usual hours of service. The communication between
the Minister and the Prisoners would their be more immediate and
direct, and they would personally feel themselves more interested
in the solemnity. The service too might be adopted to their
