And the Collector of the Land Tax attending with their
Books agreeable to the Churchwardens Request in order
that the Amount of the Sum Levied on the Inhabitants
Etc per Pound for relief of the poor might be ascertained
as near as possible by extracting from the said Books
the Rents of the Premises occupied by Persons paying
to the said poor the said Rents were extracted and
found to amount to the Sum of £18450 per Annum
Resolved that the two Quarters poor Rates ending
the 10th. October last amounting to £2865-19-5
be averaged on a Calculation with one half of the
said £18450 which being done the said Rate for
the said last half Year appears to amount to about
6s / 3d in the pound.

Resolved that the Vestry Clerk return for Answer
to the Clerk of the said Committee for the said Committees
Information That the Poor Rates of this part of the
Parish (which are entirely independent of and
distinct from that part of the Parish which lies in the
County of Middlesex ) are discretionary being assessed
on the Persons rated according to their several abilities
to pay as near as even be ascertained by the Vestry regard
how ever being had to the Extent and Set motion of the
Premises occupied that the Rates have increased and
continue rapidly increasing That they amounted to
£2865 for the half Year ending 10th. October last and that
they are not made at any particular Sum in the pound
but on Calculation appear on an Average to amount to
about 6s / 3d

Whereupon the Vestry Clerk prepared the following
Letter in Answer to that received by him from Mr. Coles
Junior Clerk to the said Committee which was read and
approved and ordered to be sent to him with all possible
dispatch

Sir
I took the earliest opportunity after the receipt of your
Letter of the 1st. Instant to lay the same before the Officers
