Luke How< no role > maketh oath that divers years ago he
was duly bound Apprentice by Indenture to James Taylor< no role > of New
Tothill Street in the Parish of Saint Margaret Westminster in
the County of Middlesex Cordwainer for the Term of Seven Years
& duly Served him there for the Term of Five Years & half & by means
thereof gained a legal Settlement there & then differences Arising
between this Deponent & his Said Master his Said Master took this
Depont. before a Magistrate & Agreed that this Deponent might
leave him and go about his Business & get himself another Master
for that he would trouble himself no farther with this Deponent
& promised that he would deliver up this Deponents Indres to him
whenever he this Deponent Should get another Master He this
Deponent being then about the Age of Nineteen Years & not more
That he this Deponent thereupon left the Service of his Said Master
Taylor & hired himself to live with one William Vollum< no role > of White
Cross Street in the Parish of Saint Luke in the Said County
Cordwainer for the remainder of the Term of his Sd Apprenticeship
but without any Consent given thereto by his Said Master Taylor
and this Deponent there upon sent to the Said James Taylor< no role > for his
Indentures which he refused to deliver up to this Deponent or his
Said Second Master Vollum That he this Deponent continued in the
Said Vollums Service during the remainder of the Term for Which he
was bound Apprentice as aforesaid & was never Called upon by his said
Master Taylor to account with him for any Money which he might
earn during his Continuance in the Service of the Said Vollum or of
any other Person Nor did the Said James Taylor< no role > ever inquire after
this Deponent during Such last mentioned Service as far as he knows or
make any provision for him Nor did the Said Taylor ever give any
Consent in Writing or otherwise to this Deponents living with the Said
Vollum in Manner as before stated that he this Deponent knows of
or has been informed That he this Deponent has not since lived as a
hired Servant for a year or rented a house of Ten pounds a Year or upwards
or served any Parish office or paid any Poors Rates or Kings Taxes or
done any Act to gain a Subsequent Settlement
