Upon Reading the Reports of the Commitee of this Under the Hands and Seals
of John Wallington< no role > Esqr . treasurer Mr. John Saffory< no role > Mr. Saml. Bates< no role > Mr. Saml Seawell< no role > Mr.
William Kinleside< no role > and Mr Robert Gamon< no role > In the Words and Figures following That is
to say Bridewell Hospital Wednesday 31st. March 1762 . This Commitee having
Reconsidered the Accounts of Mr. Charles Cotton< no role > late Steward of this Hospital Do find that
he was Elected Steward on the 8th. day of April 1752 and that there was Dur from him
on the Ballance of his Accounts Ending at the Respective Times hereinafter mentioned
the several sums following that is to say.

Which said Several Ballances Appear to be so due by the Accounts of this
Hospital which have been Audited And the Ballance of the last years Account
abovementioned also Appears by an Account delivered in by the said Charles Cotton< no role >
under his own hand.

And we also find that the said Charles Cotton< no role > dyed before Christmas 1759 (the
Usual time of making up and setting the Accounts of this Hospital) to wit
on the 27th. Day of Novr. 1759 leaving his Accounts unsettled and in great Confession
And the Accounts and Business of these Hospitals by the Age and Infirmitys of
Joseph Taylor< no role > Esqr . the late Clerk being Guatly in Arrear And having been many
Years Neglected The treasurer (with the Approbation of the Comittee) before that time
Employed Mr. William Read< no role > An Accountant to Inspect Regulate and settle the Accounts
In General of Both Hospital and to Get in Various Sums of Money which had many
Years lain Dormant and Unreceived to the prejudice of the Hospital and the said William
Read
< no role > together with Christopher Custy< no role > since Deseased late Clerk to the said Mr Taylor By
order of the treasurer soon after the Death of the said Charles Cotton< no role > Attended all
the Tenants of this Hospital in the Collection of the said Charles Cotton< no role > being four
Score in Humber and from the Receipts and Vouchers in their Hands And the loose
Indigested Accounts and Memorandums found amongst the Papers of the said Charles
Cotton
< no role > Made put and Settled the subsequent Account of the said Charles Cotton< no role > from
Christmas 1758 to the time of his Death And the Ballance of such Subsequent and
final Account due from the said Charles Cotton< no role > to the time of his Death (Including the
Ballance of all former Accounts) Appears to be One Thousand and Twenty
Seven Pounds fourteen Shillings

And we further find that the said Charles Cotton< no role > soon after he was Elected
Steward as aforesaid (to wit) on the day of June 1752 together with Wm. Hamerton< no role >
