Wednesday 18th. July 1744

Amwell to London and of Humphrey Ambler< no role > Gent was read (which was
referred to them by order of Court 14th. Jan 1742) Setting forthThat by Indre of
Lease dated 23d. Decr. 1714 the Governours demised to the Petitioner Ambler all
that then double Brick Messuage and all those three Single brick Messuages
then or late in the Occupations of the said Petitioner Ambler and George
Dyer

and yard with the Stables and Wheelers Shop & Shed thereon Erected and
the Wharf lying next the River Thames with the Crane and all Messuages
Tenements Hay lofts & Buildings thereon Erected & made or to be erected
and made which said premes are therein mentioned to contain the Several
dimension's & Boundarys in the Ground plott thereto annexed mentioned
and to lye in the precinct of Bridewell London To hold from Michaelmas
1714 for 37 years at the yearly Rent of £100 payable as therein Expressed
That by Indre dated 10th: May 1716 the petitioner Ambler demised to
said Governour & Company the said premes for 35 years to comence from
the 25th. March 1716That the said Governour & have laid out above £2000
in Buildings and Improvemts: thereon and in repairing the wharfing
against the River Thames That the said Governour & Company have
contracted with the petitioner Ambler for the absolute purchase of all
his right and Interest in the premes of the remainder of his Term therein
That the Wharfing of the premes against the River Thames is
greatly out of repair by the beating of the Barges and other Craft Again
the same so that it will Cost £600 at least to repair the same effectually
and there are other considerable repairs wanted on the premesThe
petitioner Ambler prayed to have leave to Alienate the said premes to the
said Governour & Company for the remainder of this Term therein
and the said Governour and Company prayed that on Such Alienation
they may have a renewall of the said Lease for such Term as may
encourage them to expend the great Sums of money necessary to be laid
out thereonand Mr. Whishaw who attended this Comee on
behalf of the said Company being called in proposed to pay £100
P Ann rent clear of Taxes and a Fines of £1050 for a Lease to
make up the Term in being 61 years with usual Covenants & a
Covenant to pay to the Chappelwardens of the said precinct for the
time being such Sum & Sums of money Quarterly in proportion with
other Occupyers of Ground & Houses in the said Precinct towards the
charge of the Scavenger Watch and poor of the said Precinct as shall
be rated or assessed from time to time at the usual meetings of the
Chappell Wardens & Inhabitants of the said Precinct This Comee
having considered the said proposalls are of Opinion to Accept the same
upon which the said Mr. Whishaw gave a Guinea to the Poors box
all which nevertheless is Submitted to the Judgement of the
Courtand it is Ordered this Opinion be reported to the next Court
This Court having duly weighed and considered the said
Report doth confirm the same and order that a Lease be made
to the said Governor & Company Accordingly.
