Beadle Vacancy on the death
of Thos. Cleaver< no role > }


This Court declared the Vacancy of a Beadle of this Hospital on the decease of
Thomas Cleaver< no role > And Ordered that the Election of a Beadle be the 17th. of February
next and that Notice thereof be inserted in the Ticketts.

Apprentices


At this Court the following poor Boys were Ordered to be put out Apprentices at the
Nomination of the Governors hereafter named Vizt.

Mr. John Ward< no role > late one of the Artsmaster s of this Hospital be for the present
sent to Mr. Reay one of the Artsmasters And that the Steward to deliver to the
said Mr. Reay Work Sufficient to employ the said Boys

Comittee Appointed}


Mr. President acquainted the Court he had received two sealed Letter directed
to the President Treasurer and Governors of Bethlem Hospital which being now
opened by the Clerk and read the one appeared to be from Richard Dalton< no role > Esqr (one
of the Exos of Sr . John James< no role > Barrt ) dated the 19th. Janry purposting that the heirs
at Law of the late Sr . John James< no role > designing to contest his will the Excos are
desirous to meet some of the Gover of Bethlem with these of St. George Hospital
to receive their advise and assistance upon this occasion& the other Letter was
signed Tho. Mason< no role > Secretary and dated St. George's Hospital Hyde Park Corner
20th. Janry 1741/2 purporting that a Committee of that Hospital was appointed
to meet at the Rainbow Coffee house Lancaster Court near St. Martins Church
on Saturday (then) next at 4 Afternoon and desired this Court would
appoint some Gentleman to meet the said CommitteeWhereupon It is
Ordered that the President Treasurer & Auditor General and the Gentleman
of the long Robe who are Governors of these Hospitalls and the following
Gentleman Vizt. Mr. Pryse Mr. Lock, Mr Charleton Dr. Rawlinson. Mr. Fotherby
Mr. Cheeks & Mr. Meyor be a Committee for the Affairs relating to the will of
Sr . John James< no role > Barrt. deced & they or any three of them to act in Coryn notice
with the Committee of St. Georges Hospital and to report their proceedings to
this Court as they shall see occasion

Mr. President acquainted the Court That on the 14th. of Janry instant He received
by the Penny post a paper in the from of a Letter sealed and directed to him in
Mincing Lane near Fenchurch Street which he opened and found another a paper
inclosed therein not dated nor subscribed with any name& desired the said
inclosed paper might be read which was done as follows ViztGrievences
presented for RedressThe Executing money (the but a Shiff) from the
poor patients friends when they only come to being clean, or take away four
Linnen from them in BethlemThe Holyday behaviour in that Hospital
a Nuisance to the Inhabitants & a scandal to passengersA Prohibition
for the future against the large Quantitys of strong Liquor carried in daily
which gives great offence to all who observe itThe Cause of the
Iqnorance of the state of the Apprentices in Bridewell is in some ones care
to be attributed to the Indolence of that officer whose duty it is to draw up
Lists of the Apprentices (with their respective binding) at proper times in such
numbers, as not only some but the whole Committed present may have a view of
the State of the houses2. Why such a List on a bread Street of paper should not
as well as the Kalendars be laid on the Table before every Court & Comittee for the
perusal of the numbers of bothLastly the presence of your office (owne of
which are sworn to Secreey) at Debates in Courts & Committee larceny unusual
Circumstance for any publick lady to permitNB. A Copy of this paper as an
Appeal to the publick is therein mentioned are not as they daserve recoredered It is
Ordered that the Consideration of the said paper be deferred till the next Court
& that cosups thereof be delivered to the steward of such Hospital
